Cheltenham - Betting preview - Wednesday 11th March (Monday, March 02, 2009)

Queen Mother Champion Chase - Wednesday 11th March

One horse many will be following is the classy Master Minded. He is a short priced favourite at 1/3 to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase on the 11th March with Paddypower. Yet another of Paul Nicholls quality horses and he is our pick of the meeting despite the short odds on offer. We simply cannot see any dangers and our confidence in the horse was given a major boost with Paul Nicholls recent comments about the condition of the Master Minded.

"He won the Tingle Creek and didn't come out of a canter to win the Victor Chandler at Ascot. He looks in fantastic form and I think he has improved enormously physically from last year," explained the champion trainer. It is great to see a trainer honest about his horses chances and with his comments in mind, the 1/3 does start to look more tasty.

The bookies have priced Voy por Ustedes as the only real contender for the Nicholls trained horse. He ran out an extremely impressive winner in his last race in Ascot's Betfair Chase. He won with 14 lengths to spare and the testing ground will only improve his immense stamina. It is still unsure as to whether Alan King will enter Voy por Ustedes into the Queen Mother Chase or the Ryanair Chase although he is 6/4 with Paddypower to win the latter race. Whichever one he does eventually ride in, he will almost certainly be thereabouts come the finish line.

The best of the rest could be the other Paul Nicholls trained horse in Twist Magic. Voy por Ustedes did beat Twist Magic in last seasons Arkle chase but Twist Magic was prominent and appeared to be in with every shout of winning the race were it not for a soft fall two out. He will certainly have a point to prove this time around and at 16/1 with Paddypower, looks a decent alternative to the odds on favourite.

Queen Mother Champion Chase Betting Market:

Master Minded - 1/3 Paddypower
Petit Robin - 10/1 Paddypower
Voy por Ustedes - 12/1 Paddypower
Big Zeb - 12/1 Paddypower
Tidal Bay - 14-1 Paddypower
Twist Magic - 16/1 Paddypower

16/1 Bar the rest

Cheltenham - Betting preview - Tuesday 10th March ()

Cheltenham Champion Hurdle - Tuesday 10th March

Another to keep an eye out for is the Nicky Henderson trained horse Binocular. He has been entered for the Champion hurdle on the 10th March and is likely to go off as an odds on favourite on the day of the race. The four-year old will have to pull off the performance of his life though as he looks to beat some horse's older than him self but he undoubtedly has the talent to do so. He was a useful performer on the flat and has won five of his six starts over hurdles. Binocular's only ever defeat came at this meeting last year when he finished second behind Captain Cee Bee in the Supreme Novice Hurdle. The Thirteen time champion jump jockey AP McCoy will ride the short priced favourite and his booking is a major positive for any potential Binocular punter.

It would come as a surprise if we were to see anyone other then Binocular stroll through the finishing line first but the horses with the biggest chances of upsetting the odds appear to be Celestial Halo and Crack Away Jack. The pair head the remainder in the market but Binocular beat the pair of them back at Ascot in December. Katchit is also a quality horse but he has also been beaten by the favourite so it would appear Binocular has the beating of the opposition.

Champion Hurdle Betting Market:

Binocular - 5/4 Paddypower
Celestial Halo - 9/1 Paddypower
Osana - 9/1 Paddypower
Crack Away Jack - 12/1 Paddypower
Sublimity - 14/1 Paddypower
Ashkazar - 14/1 Paddypower
Katchit - 14/1 Paddypower

20/1 Bar the rest

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Betting preview - Gold Cup ()

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Betting Preview - Gold Cup

One of the events of the year as far as Horse racing fanatics go. Tuesday 10th March will certainly be a date many punters will have circled when the official racing calendar was released. We're sure that many are still eagerly ticking off the days until the day arrives but there isn't long to go now and even us loyal football fans are even getting excited about this years meeting.

This has always been a meeting that prides itself on the unpredictability of it's races and none more so then the main event itself, The Cheltenham Gold Cup. This seasons main event looks as tricky as ever to predict but we will do our best to highlight a few potential winners along with some eye-catching horses that you certainly don't want to miss.

The meeting will last four days and kicks off in the middle of March. With Millions of pounds being bet over the course of the meeting, there will certainly be a few surprises and possibly some big price winners. There are several short price favourites the bookies are hoping will not pass the finish line first but we fancy a few of their chances with Master Minded catching our eye the most.

Cheltenham Gold Cup - Friday March 13th

We will start with the Gold Cup and what a line up we have. Favouritism has gone with two time winner Kauto Star and he looks a justified short price favourite. The Nine-year old has already been there and got the t-shirt as far as this race is concerned but the Paul Nicholls trained horse is gunning for the hat-trick and he has solid claims to make it three on the bounce. Ruby Walsh is set to ride aboard Kauto Star who has only ever finished out of the places on just two occasions. His most recent outing showed all the doubters who's boss as he strolled to victory to win his third King George crown. He became just the third horse in the history of the sport to win the King George on three seperate occasions and merits a lot of respect for the Gold Cup.

There are a few dangers for Kauto Star but it would be major surprise if Paul Nicholls didn't win this race as he has six horses involved in this prestigious race. Both Neptunes Collonges and Denman will be highly fancied in the market and are both in the Nicholls stable. We have however managed to find a horse that does have a huge chance of causing an upset and that is David Pipe's gelding Madison Du Berlais. The horse looked very impressive in his most recent outing winning the Levy Board Chase at Kempton back in February defying the odds by beating the odds on favourite Denman, in a comfortable manner. At around 8/1 with Paddypower, he looks the value of the race.

Gold Cup Betting Market:

Kauto Star 7/4 - Paddypower
Denman - 9/2 Paddypower
Neptune Collognes - 5/1 Paddypower
Madison Du Berlais - 8/1 Paddypower
Exotic Dancer - 10/1 Paddypower
Barbers Shop - 14/1 Paddypower
Albertas Run - 16/1 Paddypower

16/1 Bar the rest

Good Luck with with all your Cheltenham selections. We hope you enjoy yourself over the four day meeting and have a profitable mid-March.

Our Cheltenham Picks:

Master Minded at 1/3 Paddypower - Queen Mother Champion Chase (NAP)
Madison Du Berlais at 8/1 Paddypower - Cheltenham Gold Cup
Gwanako at 14/1 Paddypower - Ryanair Chase
Twist Magic (E/W) at 16/1 Paddypower - Queen Mother Champion Chase
