| PREMIERSHIP - Newcastle United vs Manchester United (Sunday, August 28, 2005) |
|
Competition: Premiership Date: Sunday 28 August 2005 Kick Off: 4pm
Manchester United will look to continue their fine start of the season which has seen them take maximum points so far. Newcastle, on the other hand, have struggled despite investment in new players and are yet to score a goal this term.
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is under pressure as the Magpies have not won a Premiership game in 13 matches attempts and have drawn the last four at St James's Park.
To add further pressure, Newcastle have beaten Sir Alex Ferguson's side just once in their last 11 meetings.

| CARLING CUP - Colchester United vs Cardiff City (Wednesday, August 24, 2005) |
|
Competition: Carling Cup Date: Wednesday 24 August 2005 Kick Off: 7-45pm
The Carling Cup pits two struggling sides against eachother this evening. Colchester have lost two, drawn one and won one in their four fixtures this season while Cardiff have lost three out of four of their matches.
However, wholesale changes to the Cardiff team are likely, with the classy Glenn Loovens playing in defence and also likely starting berths for Phil Mulryne and Alan Lee. Dean Gerken takes over in the Colchester goal because Aidan Davison is banned.

| PREMIERSHIP - Sunderland vs Manchester City (Tuesday, August 23, 2005) |
|
Competition: Premiership Date: Tuesday 23 August 2005 Kick Off: 7-45pm
Manchester City not to lose against rock-bottom Sunderland looks a good bet tonight. The Blues have made a good start to the season - a goalless draw at home to West Brom and then a 2-1 win at Birmingham on Saturday.
Under Stuart Pearce City have won five and drawn five of their last 10 matches and have not been beaten since a 2-1 reverse at Spurs on 19 March. City are also unbeaten in five away fixtures and have also won their last two matches on the road.
City recorded a 3-0 win at the Stadium of Light when Sunderland were in the Premiership three seasons ago but taking City on a level ball handicap will see the stakes returned should the match end as a draw.

| CARLING CUP - Southend United vs Southampton (Monday, August 22, 2005) |
|
Competition: Carling Cup Date: Monday 22 August 2005 Kick Off: 8pm
Southampton continued their good start to the season with a win over Norwich on Saturday and will be keen to keep the momentum going against Southend.
Manager Harry Redknapp is keen to give some fringe players such as Theo Walcott, Nathan Dyer and Martin Crainie a chance, but the squad will still include senior players such as David Prutton, Dennis Wise, Rory Delap and Brett Ormerod.
Southend will be without star striker Freddy Eastwood, who is banned, while injured defender Duncan Jupp may be replaced by veteran Spencer Prior.

| PREMIERSHIP - Liverpool vs Sunderland (Friday, August 19, 2005) |
|
Competition: Premiership Date: Saturday 20 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Liverpool were held to a goalless draw last weekend at Middlesbrough but were unlucky not to come away from the Riverside Stadium with maximum points. Steven Gerrard, who has been prolific pre-season and in Liverpool's European campaign, was guilty of missing a hatful of chances.
The Reds should not have so many problems against Sunderland, who lost 17 successive matches when they were last in the Premiership two years ago, while Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield since Manchester United won 1-0 in January.
Sunderland are set to struggle this season and their frailties were exposed last weekend when they lost 3-1 at the Stadium of Light to Charlton Athletic, despite the visitors being reduced to 10 men.

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Crystal Palace vs Plymouth Argyle () |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Saturday 20 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Crystal Palace are looking to kick-start their season after losing two and drawing one of their opening three games this season. They face a Plymouth side who are traditionally poor away from home but may have to do without strikers Andy Johnson and Jon Macken.
However, players such as Aki Riihilahti, Danny Granville and Dougie Freedman could return after recovering from injury.
In their last 10 away matches last season, stretching back to January 1st, Plymouth lost seven including two five-goal batterings at West Ham and Sunderland. The only team they beat was a woeful Nottingham Forest side.

| PREMIERSHIP - Everton vs Manchester United (Saturday, August 13, 2005) |
|
Competition: Premiership Date: Saturday 13 August 2005
Everton may have overachieved last season and unbelievably finished in a Champions League qualifying position after seasons of flirting with relegation. The Toffees were brought back to earth with a bump midweek with a 2-1 defeat against Villareal which will make qualification almost impossible.
Manchester United have looked dangerous in pre-season with Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring goals again while Rio Ferdinand has finally signed a new contract ending speculation about his future.
Last season Everton won this fixture 1-0 but United have won the four encounters at Goodison Park prior to the defeat.

| CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - CSKA Sofia vs Liverpool (Wednesday, August 10, 2005) |
|
Competition: Champions League Date: Wednesday 10 August 2005 Kick Off: 7-45pm
CSKA Sofia will undoubtedly provide Liverpool with sterner opposition than T.N.S. and Kaunas as they aim to qualify for the Champions League proper. The Bulgarian outfit lost just one game on their way to winning their domestic title.
However, Liverpool are enjoying a rich vein of form, after winning seven pre-season matches on the spin, with Djibril Cisse netting in his last three games while Steven Gerrard has scored in all four of Liverpool's European qualifying ties.

| CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Anorthosis vs Rangers (Tuesday, August 09, 2005) |
|
Competition: Champions League Date: Tuesday 10 August Kick Off: 7pm
Rangers come into this game off the back of two league wins and have also kept two clean sheets. They will be keen to improve on last season'sChampions League campaign when they bowed out at this stage with a defeat against CSKA Moscow.
The Cypriot outfit are arguably weaker opponents than Moscow but player / manager Temur Ketsbaia is confident of an 'upset' after defeating a useful Trabzonspor side in the previous qualifying round.

| CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Everton vs Villareal () |
|
Competition: Champions League Date: Tuesday 10 August 2005 Kick Off: 20-05pm
Villareal have a well organised team but Everton are also a difficult side to break down at Goodison Park. Former Manchester United misfit Diego Forlan is the new dangerman of Spanish football and could be lethal in attack with Riquelme.
This could be a cagey affair with Tacchinard playing a defensive midfield role for Villareal, while Phil Neville has been drafted in to tighten up Everton's midfield.

| COMMUNITY SHIELD - Chelsea vs Arsenal (Friday, August 05, 2005) |
|
Competition: Community Shield Date: Sunday 7 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Last season?s first vs second square off in the Community Shield, having drawn twice in the Premiership last season 2-2 at Highbury and 0-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal have signed Aleksandr Hleb from Stuttgart to fill the void left in midfield by Patrick Vieria's departure to Juventus while Chelsea have spent millions of pounds on Atletico Bilbao?s Asier Del Horno and Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The Gunners have a reasonable success rate in this curtain-raiser, beating Manchester United 3-1 last season and Liverpool 1-0 two seasons ago but lost on penalties to United during the 2003-04 season after a 1-1 draw.
It may come down to which manager takes the match the more seriously. Chelsea have two players for each position, but Arsene Wenger may opt to rest some of his more senior players for the Premiership kick off next weekend.

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Leeds United vs Millwall () |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Sunday 7 August 2005 Kick Off: 12-15pm
Leeds United have transformed the playing staff that saw relegation to the Championship in May 2004 and are strongly fancied for a a play-off place. Kevin Blackwell's side have a great chance to take all three points in this opening fixture. Quality additions such as Steve Stone, Eddie Lewis and Robbie Blake have bolstered an already impressive Championship squad.
Millwall have not had the best preparation for the new season, sacking Steve Claridge after just 36 days in charge and replacing him with Colin Lee. Sammy Igoe, Don Hutchison and Jamie Vincent have joined although the likes of Paul Ifill, Darren Ward and Peter Sweeney have left the New Den.

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Norwich City vs Coventry City () |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Saturday 6 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Due to Coventry's stadium not being finished the match has been switched to Carrow Road to give Norwich an early-season advantage. The Canaries are at full strength bar Damien Francis who has joined Wigan and will field Dean Ashton and Leon McKenzie in attack - a pairing that will terrorise defences in this division given the service.
Coventry City, on the other hand, have had a poor pre-season, winning just two matches out of seven and lost half of their away games last season before finishing 19th in the league.
SoccerBetting.info Prediction: Norwich City Odds: 1.73 (Skybet) Stake: 5pts

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Ipswich Town vs Cardiff City (Thursday, August 04, 2005) |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Saturday 6 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Ipswich finished third last season but have lost the 'spine' of the their team following the departures of goalkeeper Kelvin Davies, midfielder Tommy Miller and strike pairing of Shefki Kuqi and Darren Bent, who weighed in with 41 goals between them last season.
Cardiff have seen massive changes over the summer period with eight players leaving and nine arriving. The likes of Danny Gabbidon, James Collins and Jobi McAnuff have left but Darren Purse, Jeff Whitley and Jason Koumas have arrived among others.

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Crystal Palace vs Luton Town () |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Saturday 6 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Relegated Palace should overcome their promoted opponents in this London derby. Iain Dowie has managed to keep hold of £10m rated striker Andy Johnson who netted 22 goals in all competitions last season and has capable players in Jon Macken and Dougie Freedman to partner him at this level.
Luton proved too good by far for League One last season but may find Palace's 'welcome to the Championship' a much sterner test on the opening day of the season.

| CHAMPIONSHIP - Derby County vs Brighton () |
|
Competition: Championship Date: Saturday 6 August 2005 Kick Off: 3pm
Derby look a sound bet to open their campaign with a victory over a poor Brighton side. Despite mammoth debts of £40m, the Rams have managed to keep hold of star players Rasiak and Idiakez and have also recruited well defensively with the signing of Marc Edworthy and loan arrival of highly rated Middlesbrough defender Andrew Davies.
Derby beat Brighton 3-0 at Pride Park and again at the Withdean Stadium later in the season and a similar scoreline is expected on Saturday.
Brighton have signed Manchester United defender Paul McShane on loan and striker Colin Kazim-Richards in a £250,000 deal from Bury but these signings do not inspire for what will be a tough slog for the relegation favourites.
