Premiership Relegation - Ante Post Bet (Friday, July 29, 2005)

Sunderland won the Championship in convincing fashion last season but could be Premiership relegation fodder.

Quality second-tier players such as Tommy Miller, Kelvin Davis and Nyron Nosworthy have been brought in as has Jon Stead, but with just two goals to his name last season, he cannot be relied on to fire the club to safety.

The Black Cats should be backed for relegation at 1.80 (4/5) and also to finish bottom of the Premiership at 5.0 (4/1 - both Stan James).

Similarly, Wigan will find life a lot tougher in the Premiership after never being in danger of not winning promotion last season.

Paul Jewell has found it difficult to attract players to the JJB Stadium, with Rotherham goalkeeper Mike Pollitt and Bastia defender Pascal Chimbonda the only new arrivals while defensive pair Nicky Eaden and Ian Breckin have left for Nottingham Forest.

The Latics should be backed for relegation at 1.80 (4/5) and also to finish bottom of the Premiership at 5.0 (4/1 - both Paddy Power).

Championship - Ante Post Bet ()

Of the three relegated Premiership sides, Norwich City appear the best equipped to make a swift return to the top flight. Norwich have a squad too good for this division and proved as much in 2003/04 when they won the league eight points ahead of WBA. Record signing Dean Ashton has vowed to stay at Carrow Road and will have a field day with quality players supplying him the ammunition.

Damien Francis, Leon McKenzie, Darren Huckerby and battle hardened veterans such as Craig Fleming and Simon Charlton will all excel at this level and the free transfer signing of Wigan midfielder Jason Jarrett was also a shrewd piece of business.

The generous parachute payment given to the Canaries means boss Nigel Worthington is under no pressure to sell any of his current squad but may lose goalkeeper Robert Green now he has full England honours.

Due to perceived ‘bigger clubs’ such as Southampton and Wolves occupying the same division, Norwich can be backed at generous odds to win the Championship and bounce back at the first attempt.

Odds: 6.50 (Sporting Odds)

League One - Ante Post Bet ()

After a few seasons of frustration it may finally be Bristol City's time to win League One and gain promotion to the Championship. Brian Tinnion's side have potentially the division's most potent strikeforce Marcus Stewart and Michael Bridges.

Former Port Vale forward Steve Brooker, who bagged 21 goals for the Valliants and the Robins following his September switch to Ashton Gate adds further goalscoring power to the side.

Left winger Grant Smith and uncompromising centre back Matt Heywood have arrived, as has Alex Russell from Torquay. The squad looks stronger than it has done for years and the play-off agony endured in the recent past should soon be vanquished.

SoccerBetting.info Prediction: Bristol City to win League One
Odds: 8.0 (Sporting Odds)
Stake: 1pt
