West Ham United Vs Everton Betting – Sunday 8th November

November 5th, 2009 / Matt

West Ham United V Everton

Sunday 8th November – 15:00 GMT

West Ham United

League Position: 19th

Recent League Form: LDLDD

Finally, after nine games without a win, West Ham did mange to register a big victory against a highly talented Aston Villa side. However, the win came at a price as both Herita Illunga & influential forward, Carlton Cole, both suffered injuries in the 2-1 win over Villa and had to be replaced before half-time had even come around. The full extent of the injuries aren’t yet known but both, especially the latter, will be severely missed by both Gianfranco Zola and the Hammers fans.

It was an entertaining affair at Upton Park last Wednesday, one which the fans did eventually end in celebratory fashion after Zavon Hines, Carlton Cole’s first half replacement, scored an injury time winner to send the Hammers fans into raptures. However, although Hines will have been the hero for his late show, it was Robert Green in the West Ham goal that stole all the plaudits with some outstanding saves to deny Villa any sort of advantage. The current England number 1 kept West Ham firmly in the game and he rightly showed the nation just why Fabio Capello is so fond of him.

That was West Ham first win in nine games after a bad run of results consisting of five defeats and four draws. However, with West Ham notching up not only their first win in what seemed an eternity, they also ended their four game baron run at Upton Park but they return back to the very same venue to take on a side that finish just above Aston Villa last season, so a similar test awaits them it would seem. However, Everton are suffering a dip in form themselves and some will feel, us included, that now is the perfect time to play the Toffees and could we see West Ham rarity this season – back-to-back wins in the league for the Hammers?

The form book indicates that West Ham could struggle and the injuries to both Herita Illunga & Carlton Cole will massively dent their chances, despite West Ham playing on without them on Wednesday and winning the game. Carlton Cole, a player with three league goals this season, will be missed the most as Zola doesn’t have many out-an-out forwards to choose form at the moment. Both Dean Ashton & Louis Boa Morte are unavailable, while the talented youngster, Freddie Sears, is out on loan with Crystal Palace. Hopefully Cole will recover in time but without him, Zola certainly has a selection headache ahead of the arrival of Everton, but for all the wrong reasons.

Everton

League Position: 13th

Recent League Form: WDDLD

Merseyside not the most idealistic City to be in at this moment in time, with neither Everton nor Liverpool playing particularly well. However, neither can afford to drown their sorrows, especially Everton, as the Toffees find themselves in a sticky 13th position, a mill miles off where they expect to finish the season, that’s for sure.

It’s been a very poor start to the season for David Moyes & Everton but they do have a decent opportunity here to add some vital points onto the board at Upton Park, against West Ham. However, Everton’s away form hasn’t been good, with The Toffees winning just one of their four away outings in the league thus far. Their solitary away victory comes in the form of a narrow and somewhat fortunate 1-0 win at Fratton Park, against a Portsmouth side that had previously lost all their games in the league. However, Everton have come unstuck against anything slightly better then Portsmouth, losing at Burnley (1-0), Fulham (2-1) & Bolton (3-2).

Although Everton’s away record this season is extremely poor for a club of their stature (1-0-3), they were very unlucky to lose in some. Louis Saha missed a penalty in the defeat at Burnley, Fulham came from behind and scored late on when they beat the Toffees, while Everton produced a fine comeback of their own when they came from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 away at Bolton, only to see Ivan Klasnic restore the lead with just minutes to go. It’s been a case of fine margins for Everton on the road and if they can cut out the needless yet costly mistakes then they will fare a lot better on the road.

Head-to-Head:

West Ham United W: 2 Everton W: 5 Draws: 3

The Hammers don’t have the best of records when it comes to facing the Toffees. In the last five encounters at Upton Park, Everton have won three and managed to take a draw back in another. In five visits to Upton Park, Everton have accumulated 10 points from a possible 15, which isn’t bad going, not at all. West Ham’s last home success over Everton came back in the 2006/2007 season, three years ago, when they beat the Toffees 1-0.

Match Verdict: Everton to WIN – 3.00 Bet365

Neither are performing very well at the moment while West Ham’s possible lack of fire-power cancels out their home advantage in our opinion. Everton haven’t been playing all that well to be honest but with West Ham likely to be without Carlton Cole, their lack of fire-power up front should be evident. If Everton can keep it tidy at the back and take their chances when they do arise then they could take home all the spoils. It’s a big ask considering their form eight now, four games without a win, but at the odds they are worth a shot.
